Social Media, Volunteer Work

North Queensland Animal Rescue (NQAR) is a Cairns-based registered charity run entirely by volunteers. They provide foster care and rehoming services for dogs through private surrenders and council pounds across North Queensland.

Over the course of 12 months, I volunteered my time to curate and manage NQAR’s social media presence, reaching a combined audience of over 32,300 followers across Facebook and Instagram. With the success of dog adoptions often resting on the reach and engagement of these posts, managing NQAR’s social media was both a responsibility and a privilege.

Taking the reins, I worked to ensure consistent, high-quality imagery and developed a suite of branded social media templates to create visual cohesion across all platforms.

Given the emotional nature of animal rescue, it was vital to strike a balance between urgent call-outs for dogs in need and uplifting success stories. Copywriting played a key role, with each dog’s profile crafted to highlight their unique personality and increase their chances of finding a loving forever home.

I have since handed over the platforms to new social media managers but look fondly back on my time volunteering and am looking forward to assisting NQAR in the future.
